Message from VC KIU

Dear Students and Faculty of KGS Assalamualaikum

We warmly welcome you to KGS. High Impact Research is one of the top priorities of Vice Chancellor.

Today KIU has more than 120 PhD faculty with diverse background having completed their PhD and post docs from globally recognized institutes. KGS has been established to promote research culture in GB and guide the young leaders to develop durable and sustainable solutions to the challenges of the region..

As part of Hindukush Karakoram Himalayas (HKH) region, the fragile ecosystem of GB is faced with multitude of challenges like Climate Change, Natural Disasters, Water & Air pollutions, Land and soil degradation, unsustainable mining, low female literacy in some parts, glaciers melting and deforestation etc. The low per capita income and lack of business and trade Opprtunities in the region make it more vulnerable. Multidimensional approach is required to cater with these challenges involving policy and institutional framework. For making and implementing research driven policy making , reliable and relevant timely data is required. I am sure that the research at KGS will be connected to the policy making in the region. I am happy to share that 24 MS/PhD programs have been initiated and about 1000 research students are pursuing their studies here. MS in Forestry, Linguistic & literature and Media Studies are underway.

At the same time the faculty of schools and colleges also need their career progression. Under the new policy of HEC, a number of affiliated colleges will start Associate Degree Programs from current year, as the traditional two year BA/BSc programs have been discontinued from last year. For quality Associate Degree Programs in colleges of public and private sectors , intensive capacity building of teachers in these institutions will be required besides financial and physical resources. I hope that this school will develop their capacity.

I am sure that the team of KGS including Admn and faculty will ensure to comply with the global and national standards of teaching and research. The dividends will be trickled down to societies to create social impact.
